Nine of Swords Tarot Card Meanings

Two thirds of the image on this card shows nine swords in the darkness.  The bottom of the image shows a person sitting up in bed, holding his face in his hands.

This card always makes me think of the reference to ‘a sword hanging over his head’ when we have some worry or problem, and in a way, this is magnified by nine in this image.  Has the man woken from a nightmare?  What has him so worried that he cannot sleep? 

So the impression is that this person is unable to sleep or has woken prematurely from sleep because of worries or problems.  However, that which we dream of is not reality.  Our dreams and nightmares may be inspired by actual events, but rarely do things seem as bad in the light of day as they do in the middle of the night.

I think while this person may have fears, they quite probably are not as bad as he feels they are in the moment that has been captured here in this image.
