Nine of Pentacles Tarot Card Meanings

This card depicts a lady in a beautiful and lush garden.  Around her, she has nine coins, and a bird rests on her left hand.

I think the image on this card is beautiful and almost serene.  The lady has a peaceful and contented look on her face, and she gazes at the bird on her hand as if she is enjoying the sight of it resting there.  The coins that surround her make me think she has achieved her practical and financial goals, but her peace seems to derive from more than this.  After all, she’s not sitting in a room, counting her money; she’s in the gorgeous garden, with thick green foliage and heavy bunches of grapes hanging down.  It is as though she has attained the practical things and this has allowed her to retreat into this mini paradise and take pleasure in nature and the little things.  Isn’t this the goal of financial gain; to allow us the time and freedom to pursue other pleasures in life?

The way the figure rests her hand lightly on the pile of coins to her right shows me that she is aware of what she has achieved and is secure that it is hers.  She does not cling to it like the man in the Four of Cups.  In fact she does not even look at the coins; her attention is on the bird she holds.  Birds need to fly free and soar, and this is the lesson for the lady here.  She can remain in her gilded cage, or she can use her material gain to go out and enjoy the world.  Nevertheless, I do see this image as being very positive.
