Empress Tarot Card Meanings
The first thing that comes out at me when I look at the Empress card is a sense of nature, peace and satisfaction. The lady sitting in the middle of the scene could be Mother Nature herself. There is nothing masculine at all about this card; it is completely feminine. We see a lush green forest behind her, with a flowing stream and waterfall. The flowing water tells me about free flowing emotions and feelings. Before her is a field of ripe wheat. She sits on a cushioned throne, with a heart shaped stone at her feet with the symbol of Venus on it.
This abundance of fertility and femininity is reinforced by the robe she is wearing which is decorated with images of pomegranates. In fact, looking at her, she appears to have a full figure, maybe she is pregnant? She certainly gives the impression of being a mother. She makes me feel like she is patient and nurturing; she will plant the seeds and nurture them until they grow into the lush scene around her with patience and love.
This card oozes satisfaction. The Empress is completely satisfied with where she is, what she has achieved and everything that she has. She is the embodiment of everything feminine. There is also an implied sexuality and seductive quality about the Empress; how else did she get pregnant? Also, the connection with Venus would show her having mastered love.
The only slight note of discord is that as beautiful as the scene is and as satisfied as the Empress looks, it seems a little removed from reality. Is the Empress too engrossed in nature and beauty? Is there somewhere else she should be or something else that needs attention?
